SysModeler — User Manual

14. Requirements Management

SysModeler treats requirements as first-class engineering artifacts, with a dedicated Requirement Traceability matrix.

14.1 The Traceability Matrix

A structured grid presents system requirements with four key columns:

ColumnDescription
RequirementThe requirement name/identifier
DescriptionDetailed text of the engineering specification, constraint, or performance metric
Source FileThe .sysml file where the requirement is defined
Satisfied ByThe element(s) that satisfy the requirement

14.2 Searching requirements

The Requirement Search Bar filters and queries the matrix in real time by requirement name, description text, or source-file location.

14.3 Modeling requirements

  • In v1, model requirements and their relationships (derive, satisfy, verify, refine) using Requirement Diagrams.
  • In v2, requirements live in the model source, typically organized under a requirements area of the file hierarchy.

14.4 Exporting requirements

Export requirement data into standard engineering and documentation formats, with export scope filters to control what's included:

Export formatNotes
ReqIFRequirements Interchange Format (Beta)
CSVSpreadsheet-friendly
ExcelMicrosoft Excel workbook
Word / DocsFormatted document
MarkdownPlain-text structured document

Export scope toggles: switch the export boundary between Plain Requirements, Requirement Definitions, and Requirement Usages.
